Hair Extension Aftercare Guide
Proper care and maintenance are crucial for keeping your hair extensions looking vibrant and healthy. Follow these guidelines to ensure your extensions stay in excellent condition.
Washing
Frequency
Wash your extensions every 5-6 days or as needed, depending on your scalp condition and lifestyle.
Products
Use a sulfate-free, gentle shampoo and conditioner specifically formulated for hair extensions. Avoid products with alcohol, as they can dry out the extensions.
Technique
– Wet your hair with lukewarm water.
– Apply shampoo to your scalp and gently work your way down to the ends, avoiding the bonds (if applicable) to prevent loosening.
– Rinse thoroughly and follow up with conditioner, applying it mainly to the ends of the hair.
Brushing
Tools
Use a wide-tooth comb or a specially designed extension brush to avoid tugging and pulling.
Method
– Start brushing from the ends, working your way up to the roots to minimize tangling and breakage.
– Brush at least twice a day, especially before bed, to keep your extensions smooth.
Blow Drying
Technique
Use a heat protectant before blow drying to prevent heat damage.
– Set your blow dryer to a low or medium heat setting.
– Dry the hair gently, holding the dryer at least 6-8 inches away from the hair.
– Avoid vigorously rubbing the hair with a towel; instead, blot it gently.
Styling
Heat Tools
Always apply a heat protectant before using any heat styling tools.
Curls and Straightening: Use low to medium heat settings, as excessive heat can damage the extensions.
Products
Choose styling products that are silicone-free and avoid heavy oils that can weigh down the hair and make it greasy.
Dying and Colouring
Any processes such as bleaching, dying etc, will shorten the lifespan of your hair extensions. If you choose to, It’s highly recommended to have your extensions dyed or colored by a professional, as this will ensure that the process is safe and effective.
Altering the extensions by any of the above will cause the guarantee to become invalid.
Sleeping
Preparation
Before bed, gently braid or tie your hair in a loose bun to prevent tangling.
Pillowcase
Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction, which helps maintain shine and curl.
Maintenance
Regular Visits
Schedule regular maintenance appointments with your stylist to check and adjust the extensions as needed.
Avoiding Oil and Products
Reduce the use of heavy oils and styling products near the bonds to prolong the lifespan of your extensions.
Hydration
Keep your extensions moisturized with leave-in conditioners or serums to maintain softness and shine.
